About Us
by kalei winney
In 1965, John “Jack” Winney went from being a logger by trade to the owner of a small campground. The new business venture began when Jack and his wife, Ethel, were approached at their home by a group of people. They were looking for a place to camp for the summer. The Winney’s owned a picturesque piece of property alongside the Great Sacandaga Lake and they saw it as an opportunity. They made an agreement and the group set up camp, naming their newfound territory “Dun Loggin’”, an ode to Jack’s previous vocation.
The campground has since grown, expanding to 100+ sites over time and adding a small country store in 2007 – Ethel Mae’s General Store, named after Jack’s wife. The campground is now a multi-generational family business, with more on the horizon.
The idea for Woods Hollow Campground started with the desire to offer a new, exciting option for people wanting to experience the outdoors. The Great Sacandaga Lake has always been an attractive vacation spot for many reasons, but with limited access, not everyone has had the opportunity to enjoy its splendor. After many years in the campground business, it has become clear that there is a great demand for what we have to offer. Once construction is completed, we will have both seasonal and nightly sites along with various amenities and activities for the whole family to enjoy. We are excited to provide a healthy, memorable, and (most importantly) fun experience to those who choose to camp with us.
